International (Missions)

At Discovery we have always tried to think beyond just ourselves. In just a few short years we have moved from the suburbs into the city with our urban campus on the Southside. We have moved from connecting only with those who speak English in our region to those who speak a different language with our Burmese Campus. We have also moved from serving only those in America to serving people in other countries around the world.

While we can’t financially support every worthy project and entity around the world, we believe that we can make a huge impact in a few strategic places God has led us to.

Mission to El Salvador (Jon and Danielle Snyder)
In 2009, Discovery sent out its first full-time missionaries to the country of El Salvador. After leading several short term trips to the country working with orphans and the homeless, Jon and Danielle Snyder chose to quit their good paying jobs, sell their home and belongings, leave family and friends and move to El Salvador to make an impact in people’s lives. Jon and Danielle were original members of Discovery and were with us from the very beginning. Discovery became the Snyder’s sending organization and they became our representatives to this small country. Click here to read more about Mission to El Salvador.

Myanmar Christian Mission (Joshua Leme)
After getting involved with the Burmese refugees living in Pittsburgh, Discovery made connections with Myanmar Christian Mission and Joshua Leme (a Burmese national and Pastor).

Besides sending monthly support to help with starting new churches in Myanmar (formerly Burma) we also provided aid following the devastating cyclone that ravaged the country in May of 2008. The cyclone left an estimated 200,000 dead and more than a million homeless.

Because of the military government regime, world aid organizations found it extremely difficult to provide aid as the government leaders never allowed full access. Most of the aid entering Myanmar came through private and religious organizations. Discovery was one of those organizations to distribute aid.

Discovery sent more than $15,000 in cash aid directly to the region through Joshua Leme in a onetime gift. We also helped to send five Water Purification Systems (totaling $25,000) that continue to produce 75,000 gallons of clean and fresh water per day (each!). Many homes were re-constructed and thousands of pounds of food and medical supplies were distributed. To read more about Myanmar Christian Mission and Joshua Leme click here.
